A reflection of Christmas past

Here I sit staring at the brightly lit tree knowing there's no place that I'd rather be,
There's ornaments of Christmas long passed with stockings and presents amassed,
I can sure get emotional this time of year recalling times of less christmas cheer,
There were times when I was a boy I felt fortunate for just one small toy,
On one occaision when I was quite young we had not even a tree no oraments hung,
Yes it was Christmas but we couldn't share the fridge and the cupboard totally bare,
It wasn't easy for a boy to forget when others it seemed got all their eyes met,
Mother said its off to church for you lads so we too could learn how little Christ had,
But that night I got deathly ill from the cold cold snow and blowing windchill
Now just when things couldn't get worse a terrible fever I fought like a curse,
Two angel's appeared and descended they stayed by my side untill I was mended,
But now it was the eve of Christmas day and while brothers were out finding play
It seemed someone had learned of our plight yet decided to remain out of plain sight,
Cause brother came through the front door with a shiny new coat and presents galore,
Now mothers pale face was apall as she questioned junior about the big haul,
But brother was quick to refrain; please give me a chance to explain,
It seems there was an old white bearded man who was joyusly willing to lend us a hand--o.k.
now mother became oh so suspiscious she thought this man was overly ambitious,
With the goods spread on the floor she ran over and bolted the door.
We never really knew his real name and mather claimed he was probably insane,
But for a poor boy of seven it became a Christmas heaven; SO DON'T TELL ME THERE'S NO SANTA CLAUSE!

MERRY CHRISTMAS/ H.J. Cruz

I believe, too. Somewhere, in the depths of mankind's evil soul, shines a small bit of hope...I choose to see the goodness. Well done, H!
