Two Drunks Write A Poem

What do writers do on slow days when they've been working too hard, and their poetry's really getting lousy? One obvious choice is to throw their garbage out here so we can all have fun with it. Why should I go nuts by myself? Here, read some bad stuff.

Old Louie's gone from the outfile,
and we knew him very well,
but as for Stan and me,
we can't agree
whether he's gone to heaven,
or whether he's gone to hell.

You see, Louie was a rounder,
he knew all the girls too well,
and when it came to drinking,
he held his liquor swell.
Yet his third wife says Louie
was better live than dead,
and it was totally wrong
of his fourth wife
just to bury him behind the shed.
Then there's his first and second wives,
they each got a share of his money,
so they collectively say,
they each could again call him honey.

As for church, Louie could holler and yell with the best,
the preacher could count on Louie for money,
and confessing the sins off his chest,
and for winking when he called the preacher's wife, honey.
The preacher says Louie is likely forgiven,
but he didn't see that wink went real well,
so Stan and me's betting it ain't likely heaven,
and Louie's likely in hell.

We can smell Louie burning,
old Lucifer's pitchfork sticking real well,
but knowing Louie he'll give a wink to Jezebel,
and that'll get him kicked out of hell.
Sure enough here he comes,
back with the beer and the rum,
says he appreciates Stan and me's try,
but we're sure no good at rhyming poetry,
he's got the fish about fried,
guess we better stick to why we come,
this was a lie but we tried,
Louie's service sure is fun.

I guess I will dare to say, Copyright 2009, Jerry W. Engler, but I can't imagine anyone possibly ever wanting to copy it, except for Louie, and he says he likes it.

Reminds me of an uncle of mine who was named Louie. He liked to get drunk to and while he didn't write poetry, he sure could spin a verbal tale or two. Cute poem.

The girls in my family didn't like this poem. But the tune for it kept going through my head, so it was written in a moment of fantasy.

You ought to get high on the herb one time when you think you can't write anymore...then you will see how REALLY bad your writing can be, read some of mine in that vein...& I hope Louie is still "down there" when I arrive, he sounds like a fun guy...Ed & Rufuz

This "poem" gave me a good laugh. I like decadent poetry once in awhile. Who was it wrote on napkins? I think the poem flows and shows insight into several dimensions. The way guys really talk.
Thanks, Jerry

Your colleague and friend,
Kathy

Jerry,

For being drunk, you write with perfect sense. :) Scares me, because I've been sober for 25 years. LOL Well done!

Hanging out your dirty linen, not bad though for a bunch of hell raisers, fish fry, drink, and poetry. Blessings! Jasmin Horst
