All our lives we hear the chorus
of those who went to war before us
Memories brought out each generation
Telling stories of war torn nations

Of all the lads that died or were maimed
The women too, though not oft named
Still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan
While we wonder where is the peace plan

In school, at home, wherever wars are taught
We hear of many battles that were fought
In all the foreign  places no one ever knew
We learn most people are just like me and you

It becomes most apparent we are all in this together
Even though our fighting may be against each other
One day we are enemies the next day friends
We spend a lifetime praying it  will some day end

How can we show our  heart felt appreciation
To  all who serve throughout the world in every  nation
For this is the story of  all  humankind, praying evermore
Yearning  for peace, while fighting, so there will be no more war.
