I dream of yesterday
And tremble beneath the weight
Of the pain, anger, and despair
That I find there.
Without fully understanding why
I once continued to live
In the most malignant of dungeons,
Its dank and putrid darkness
A cesspool of emotional filth,
Degradation and want;
Yet I fought the leaving of it
As it was all
I had ever known.
Until one day, ironically,
It was one of my jailers
Who proved my salvation,
For by banishing me
From the mire of my family
He had hoped to destroy me completely-
But instead
He set me free!
