Lust
You consume me
As never before.
Always in the past
It has been easy
To ignore you
And to laugh at myself
And my body's weakness,
For the objects
Of my regard
Were men far beyond my scope
And otherwise lacking
In serious draw.
But now there is one
Who is so close,
So seductive,
And to my dismay
Receptive
To my attraction,
Yet he must remain
Beyond my reach
For he belongs
To another
And is thus
Forbidden.
Yet still I yearn,
I dream,
And I desire
His laughter
His touch
His love.
I do not possess
The strength
Or the fortitude
To deny him
Should he reach
For me
My heart
And my body
Have hungered
For oh so long.
God help me
To resist myself
For I cannot
Turn him away.

tuff to be anything but positive when it comes to putting word to lust.....good job rebecca
Nice poem on a subject that is filled with hopes about things that could be but are not. I agree with John. Who (if anyone) any author has in mind is not for me to say. And I am definitely not qualified to offer advice or counsel about my own guesses surrounding issues that could be mere figments of someone's imagination. So please do not call me at xxx-2xx-xxx0. Especially not at 3 AM. :=)
I sometimes get upset with reviewers who automatically assume that everything I write is true and only about myself. I do not do that with poems and their reading. The poem has its own life and ownership (and meaning) without necessarily the intrusion of the personality (or otherwise) of the poet. I find this poem courageous in the choosing of the subject matter and the sensitivity (and honestly) with which you deal with the situation. Subtly written. John
