Be silent mortal tongues this night
Ears with breathless listening wait
A song of praise and glory bright
Dispelling earth’s dark pain and hate
On gentle unfurled wings of love
Halos resting round fair faces
Sent with a message from above
‘Cross dark skies divine light traces
Their faces beam with glory rare
Mid perfect notes of harps and horns
And their songs are yet echoed there
Where dwell all the lost and forlorn
Oh holy night no longer silent be
Their anthems ring for thee and me
“Glory to God in the highest” they sing
“Peace on earth and to all good will”
Listen to the sounds this night ring
And hear the songs of angels still
Prince Of Peace in Bethlehem born
Both the beginning and the end
The bars of death his birth hath torn
And opened Heaven to sons of men
Above the noises of the season
Angel voices yet sing and proclaim
God’s holy plan and redeeming reason
And the royalty of Jesus’ name
Our voices blend with theirs on high
The Savior is born, God draws nigh
This is astoundingly beautiful. I hear the feathered rustle of wings as they line together for a chorale. I hear the lilting acapella of beautiful music.
