Lazy River

Smoothly sliding
through clear rippled water
my craft takes me
to shores unknown
between the banks
of tall evergreens
I slowly glide
without a care.

Down stream
toward the lake
I drift,
beneath the water
smooth pebbles tumble
with tiny grains
of shifting sand ,
I trail my hand
through liquid velvet.

The suns warm rays
brown winter skin,
absorbing heat
from head to toe.
I see a place
where waters deep
I step from my craft
for a cooling dip.

Beneath the cooling
river water
I speak with
minnows swimming there
I touch the drift wood
made smooth by time
and gently rise
to shake water
from my hair.

This wondrous day
this lazy morning
the clouds hang low
reflecting here
the shouts of jays
the songs of cardinals
make me at peace
and one with all.
