Frozen Prey

There against the stark lines of a fallen fence
at attention she stands, head held high.
Coat dappled with evening shadows
she awaits the morning light.

Leaves rustle, crackle alone on the forest path
As he searches for a willing mate.
Standing still, she never moves
as he watches for the slightest approval.

Still not moving, he watches
Curiously he moves ever closer.
Cold and stiff she repels his advances
never feeling, ever a lonely statue.

The land slowly catches the light
from the morning sun rising in the east.
Two legged camouflaged creatures
stand waiting silently behind tall trees.

Still ever lonely she stands
In shadows at the forest edge,
never moving, avoiding the sights
of wooden sticks with glinting barrels.

Forever she will grace the spot
until ravages of wind and rain
strip the fabric from her flanks.
Never more to be mistaken for frozen prey.

Very good write. Sad in its longing for man to find another way. Much enjoyed, thank you, Sharron.

Be well,

I am trembling inside....the thought of such a beautiful creature being shot distresses me to the point of causing unsteady hands....I hate blood sports...mankind is so cruel is it not?
The poem was magnificent....but sad.
