Some Man You Are (PROSE)

This hasn't happened to me, but happens all too often to other women. I just wrote through their eyes and let the feelings flow.

What kind of man needs to beat his wife?
Gives you some sort of satisfaction, huh, to be so powerful and controlling.  To destroy a woman's self-esteem.  To beat her down physically and emotionally.  Mmm, hmmmm, to make her so afraid she don't know how to act or think, for fear of "setting you off."

Yeah, some man you are.

What kind of man needs to father a child and then abandon it--screw and run, that's all you know how to do.  Gives you some satisfaction, huh, to be so powerful and controlling.  To get some gal all hot for you, telling  her the same old lies, oops, she gets into  trouble and when the going gets touch, too bad, so sad.  You don't want the responsibility.  Well, Mr. Man, it takes two to tango.  Mmm, hmmmm, to make your baby feel you didn't wanna be around and don't give a damn.

Some man you are.

And what kind of husband are you?  Having an affair on your wife, 'cause your wife got a little fat?  Gives you some satisfaction, huh, to be so powerful and controlling?  Who died and made you God?  I'm looking at you, and you ain't something special.  Mmm, hmmmm, woman gotta be pretty desperate to fall for you.

Oh, yeah, you the man, ain't you?

Git down with your bad self and git outta my face.

How true, how true. Still, I've seen many beautiful, talented women fall into this kind of relationship as they put the thrill of the moment ahead of their logic.

So much truth and experience expressed both by you, dear Karla, and by others who have commented below. A very painful and difficult situation to understand if you are a part of it; and even more so for those who have never experienced the like. Truly, the human heart is capable of both the very best of thoughts and intentions - and the very worst. Both are borne out by our actions towards each other - and sadly, especially towards our "nearest and dearest". There can never be any excuse for violence - but even I know of the anger that can drive someone close to the edge - and my personal circumstances are by no means tough. I feel for your empathy here, and for all those who express personal experience of abuse. Both abused and abuser are often very damaged people (... aren't we all??!!) and sadly often the victim feels to blame for the violence she receives. It's like pain and abuse are often magnetic. Sobering. TY Bless you, Kate xx

Those kind of men won't hit on a man, or beat. He knows he can get away with it with a woman. For a time anyway. Thanks for sharing this.

"Git down with your bad self and git outta my face" Love that line. Yep, some men are pretty bad. We women need to tell them apart before we pick them. :-)

This poem could be understood only by those women who know their rights. Others don't. They already believed bad treatment to be part of the marriage contract. SAD.

Karla, you said it very well. When I was young woman, I met some of those men, maybe dated them once or twice, but I didn't get involved with them. I had an excellent father, and I knew how a gentleman should behave. I married one, too. We have been married over thirty-one years. My advice is don't continue to date any man who can't treat you like a lady, doesn't tell the truth, is mean or disrespectful to other people or animals, drinks too much, does drugs, or thinks is fun to do unlawful things. They will give you too much heartache and will make your life miserable. The same advice could also be given to men. Your poem is like Fletcher said "Powerful".
