Sad, haunted
eyes stare
from the reflection
of her former glory;
worn, tattered,
t i r e d,
distant memories
of jazzy August nights,
long gone.

Wrinkles mar
her once
beautiful visage;
pain has destroyed her looks.
She looks at
the mess
around her and cries--
too exhausted to care,
she mourns.

New Orleans has always been like a constant companion to me... I do not live there but less than an hour away. She was a friend to visit and now I wish I could just hug her and make the pain go away.. Well written Karla..

In the same way we built a new England after ww11, N.O will be up and running, the same spirit..

Karla~

Powerful, haunting visuals you have used in this compelling poem; we must never forget what the Gulf Coast has endured as a result of Hurricane Katrina (and STILL does today, nearly one year later!)! May there never be another Katrina, and may we learn from the mistakes that were made so that thousands of people aren't left stranded or desperate for help! Very well done; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :( >tears <

This was quite intriguing, New Orleans as a spirit, persay, standing above herself and shaking her head in sadness at what she sees.

This was a powerful perspective Karla! Brava!

And having been there since Katrina, I truly mourn with her.

Powerfully penned, Karla.
