when i was five, stuck fast to the bed with nightmares, i screamed for Mom. stomping up the stairs, larger than fear itself (at least in my mind), she came and unbuckled me into her lap. i knew i was safe, then.
when i had a bad day at school, i could count on her to make things right. no bullies could reach around her to get to me. there, in her arms, i was loved and protected, and life would be better tomorrow.
she died sixteen years ago.
and here i am, a child in an adult's body, still scared of the dark, rolled around by sudden storms, a ship that has lost its anchor. i feel lost and alone in the world...how could she have left me this way?
i miss Mom's presence in my life; how i wish i could run to the comfort that she gave: nothing could harm me as long as she was near, an angel, my provider, God in the form of what love was: my Mom.
Mom's are so important and your prose is so inspiring. So sad when they leave us when we are young. God bless you and thank you for sharing your gift. My best, Gloria
your mom sounds like she was alot like my Mom, she is my resting place, as was Nonna when she was alive, this is beautiful absolutely beautiful

what a lovely poem, Karla...you were so very, very, very blessed! I'm sorry that she's no longer with you, but I'm glad that you are blessed with such powerful memories.
Moms are the miracle workers and makers in this world. With their magic all things paled to her karma. I miss my dad as much as you miss your mom. My mom is stull around making her magic.
love,
Susan
Beautiful tribute to your mother Karla! There is no bond like that of a mother, and when they leave us no matter when it is, there is a deep empty place within that can never be filled.Well done !
This is so beautiful, Karla. Our mothers are who shape us throughout our lives to be the person we are as adults -- I miss mine terribly. By the way you write, I can tell there is much of your mother in you (smiles). Again, a beautiful poem and the tender feelings gave me chills. Thank God for our memories!
Many hugs,
CJ
There is not another person in this world who can take the place of our mothers. There is a certain security that we feel from her and we never get that feeling again from anyone else in our lifetimes. I am sure that you do miss you mom, especially in moments of fear when we recall that as a unable, unable to defend ourself, she was always there to protect us and quiet our fears. Your emotions are tangible in this fine poem, Karla and you have written words that each of us knows to be so true.
Take care,
Sherry

Sherlyn Powell opens up about her love and devotion to her family and the overwhelming repercussion when communication breaks down. Heartbroken and distraught she learns to release her prayer and realize with faith God would reunite her family.
She never felt safe at home as a young girl, and didn't understand why when she finally escaped she wasn't safe in the big wide world either ...effectively jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!
Memories od mom or dad are treasures
thanks for sharing
