Thousands of eyes peer blearily from
behind masked identities; they
glitter with anticipation,
waiting for the parade to start.
Thousands of hands twitch in eager
expectation, preparing to
catch the beads being thrown their way,
already counting their booty.
Thousands of memories second-
line their way to my feet, and I
sadly dance to the Mardi Gras
Song playing a dirge to my heart.

Le Mardi Gras....Oh! hail the King od Mardi Gras...I love the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. The spirit is alive and kicking in The Big Easy. I'll need to look to find my old Mardi Gras poetry.

Susan

Oh Yes, it's in the colors of their blood, they will be BACK!
...and regardless of the still sad situation, they will drop all to show all, just how easy it is to enjoy life in the midst of sorrow!
Love this!

Karla,

New Orleans may be down, but I hope she comes back; she will return better than ever! You just watch! Then we all can sing the Chanson du Mardi Gras with vim and vigor!! BRAVA, very well done! Love the Mardi Gras coloration in your poem!

So many sad memories. Now is the time to make new memories...I like the color in your poem. It reminds me Mardi Gras beads.
