Karla, you sure know the storms of hurricanes, even the past cannot escape your pen.....a sad view and yet you did a fantastic job of expressing the story of storm through your poem...
Weather history comes alive under the ink of your writes Karla as you continue to educate us on the perils and love/hate relationship we share with Mother Nature.

Karla,
Once while visiting Key West, we took a tour bus ride around the island. During the ride and the narrative from the guide, I noticed that not one single building had survived unscathed, the many hurricanes that have swept over that island. The only original structure that had never been destroyed was the lighthouse. Because it was made of coral.
Great poem based on the non-fiction book of a few years ago. And I think that book came out before Katrina hit didn't it? Our "meteorological poetess" does it again and brings this important issue front and center in clever, inspired, frightening lines. And I think the Gavleston hurricane was only a strong Cat3 but I don't remember. But it's when you live at sealevel or below and are sitting ducks! Thank god, we are at least past the "sitting duck" stage but still with so many people in the way... I shudder to think
Harrowing account of the historic storm; may we never forget! Such a huge loss of life; and all because of man's stubborness, to be know-it-alls, to play God. Sad! Very well done, Karla; love the pic!

325 letters my father wrote to my mother during his time in World War II.
Woven together in a timeline of events of three of his brothers, 5 brothers-in-law, and one cousin, all 10 of them were in WWII at the same time.
You took me there with this piece of (sad) history. It's important to learn from our mistakes . . . incredible write!!
