Poem Artwork

rainbow colored clouds
remind me of cotton candy
and fairs.  and you:  remember?

the sights, the sounds,
the smells?  you would pick
me up, put me high above the

world:  i was safe, there
on your shoulders, watching
the rides whirl around our heads,

laughing at kenny stagger
from one to the next, a boy
determined to prove his manhood

on the midway:  no fool
ride was going to make a fool
out of him.  we'd go to the petting

zoo, giggling as karen rode
her first pony, a smile of part
fun, all terror, stuck on her face.

of course, we'd go to the
demolition derby:  you loved the
cars whizzing about the track, only

to smash themselves into
unrecognizeable piles of junk.
at the end of the day, you'd buy me

sugary sweetness that would
melt on the tips of our tongues and
we would have forever to be together ...

a little girl and her daddy.  that
is why i think of cotton candy when
i see rainbow colored clouds in the sky.

I can't imagine a more loving memory than his Karla -- the sights, the sounds, the smells of the carnival atmosphere, are unique and hold special memories for many of us -- yours with your father are extra special -- carry high the torch of peace in your hand and the light of love in your heart my dear friend -- Jon Michael

If all are memories were only the beautiful ones...such as your writing tells. The photo of the clouds definently looks as cotton candy!!! Beautiful Karla!!!

When I read this out loud, a sugary sweetness that would
melt on the tips of my tongue endeared me too it. The master poet shows here she has a heart, and a soul to go with it. Very exceptionally penned.

Karla, I will quote from the musical Cats...with a couple of changes.
"Memories, all alone in the moonlight you can smile at the old days, it was beautiful then because you remember the time when you knew what happiness was"
Your Daddy is smiling.

If we're lucky, our happiest memories are those of times we spent with our parent(s). Times that were so special they can never be forgotten. For me it's my mom taking me to the carousel at the park and letting me ride for what seemed like hours. I love your poem Karla. Your way with words is wonderful.
