be good for the gander, unless
you are a politician. Seems you're
above all that, the mean streets
where the real birds are trying to
keep ours from getting cooked.
You don't see because you are too
busy showing off your wings to the
rest of the world, while ours are
being plucked one feather at a time,
until we are dimpled with shame
at having to ask for help. You peck
and peck at our eyes until we are
blinded; your beaks squawk the
same old rhetoric and lies until we
don't know what truth is any more.
If we complain, we're thrown in the
pot, never to be heard from again.

I am reminded that in the olden days, just post WWII really the Govt. of Canada decided to implement the Old Age Security Plan, and based on data which came from the insurance companies it was decided that you had to be 65 to get it. Most people didn't even live to 65 so it was a great scheme for the govt. to take part of your wages every month and probably never have to give it back to you. grrr... Back then 265 wage earners supported an old age pensioner until his demise a few short years later. Today, will health care being better than it was and people living into their 80's there is a lot more money going out than there is coming in. Now just 6 wage earners support a senior citizen with the deductions they lose every month. This explains in part why the Govt. doesn't want a good and extensive health care system. You'll live too long. "The above are Canadian statistics."
In the animal world, the goose and the gander share equally, but we humans are not as compassionate, and some now believe that politicians aren't even human.
Hey! we can't blame the hungry politician to cook the goose and the gander when is not so much going around! You are naive if you think they will abide by "women and children first!" are you nuts? the politician only care for themselves as proved when they sold their dead mothers as fertilizer!
It never was unfortunately. Maybe there are too many ivory towers these days to hide in, you think?? And Rome is crumbling, crumbling crumbling... As always, fantastic writing...
Good points made and I can feel your pain and frustration for I am fighting this same type of thing every day since I was forced into retirement from the Federal government.

Let them be subjected to the same health care they are trying to force upon the rest of us and the same retirement or social security they extort from the majority of the population. Once in DC the gander is immune to the economic woes of the goose. Nice write.
Let THEM live on what WE are living on! Let THEM try to make it on less than nothing! The shame is, you served your country; most of them DIDN'T. They just don't know or understand (or give a damn). Sad! This shouldn't happen to a dog, let alone, those who served! Well stated; brava!

For many who worked and supported them selves all their life the many changes in government policies and for those who have had to rely on the government now with disabilities in short strugle to fit into the systems. Those who have never needed it are short sided for the needs of many. It's a good write, and once you are in that pot you need to keep swimming to the top and letting your voice be heard. Grab a floatie because it does get tiring up here. LadyJ
