whoever said killings were honorable?
i find it disgusting...abominable
women losing their lives...'cause husbands were mad
their "honor" and manhood betrayed...it's so sad
women shot, burned, if they live, they'll carry scars
their beauty and emotions forever marred
if she lives, she'll forever recall the fear
she'll never forget the terror, pain and tears
and the husband's rarely charged, often set free
while the woman winds up like a refugee
scorned by her family and her culture, too
'cause the "law" sided with the man's point of view
a woman can be beaten or slapped around
or stoned...buried...only her head above ground
how many women have we lost to abuse?
and how many more should live as a recluse?
women lose their lives every single day
it shouldn't happen...we should all be dismayed
women, you are not second class citizens
you shouldn't be hurt and abused by your men
we must stop this abuse of women and girls
with your help, we'll stop it all over the world

i watched "oprah" yesterday, and they were talking about amina luwal, a nigerian woman who faces being stoned to death, because she had a baby out of wedlock. every day, women are being abused and even killed by their husbands and family members, because "honor" has been "betrayed." they showed one woman whose husband threw acid in her face...she survived; has had four surgeries and faces many more, but will remain horribly scarred for the remainder of her life. THIS HAS GOT TO BE STOPPED. NOW.

together, we can make a difference...for all women.

Karla, you have such passion and you write it so accessibly.. quite inspiring.. Ive enjoyed your whole-hearted sincerity in many of your poems.. you're a remarkable thinker. I do believe you could move mountains.. probably already have! During years of monitoring the attitudes toward women, I have come to a humanist view.. there are some damned fine, quality men out there too. and they will line up behind this very cause you speak of here.. and it will take all of us to bring this senseless violence down!! great write! katy.

Funny im the one gets stoned in my house :( ......... But seriously, i agree with all thats been written, but heres a curve, would women be more compasionate if the roles were reversed? Food for thought...... j
yes very sad...Ididn't watch that but I have been hearing so much of that and stories like that.....it seem very outdated doesn't it but you can see it is not
