taunting (a true story)

you're stupid
you're dumb
you're retarded
you'll never learn

you're fat
you're ugly
you're worthless
you can't do ANYthing

you're an idiot
you're crazy
you'll always be a loser
and you'll never change.

"...and you'll never change."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
just some of the things i heard
during my growing up years
all the things i heard them say
would bring me to hurtful tears

it wasn't just kids at school
my family also teased me
older sisters were so mean
they put me through agony

you can't know the pain i have
why i feel the way i do
it's what i've had to endure
sometimes the words still break through

i think i'm strong but i'm not
then i wonder what's the use
why did they always pick on me
why'd i suffer this abuse?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

words can--and do--hurt.

it was bad enough facing the bullies at school,
but when you had to come home to your fami-
ly, and your two older sisters teased you, too
...they were cruel and mercilous...it was hard
to bear.

why didn't my parents put a stop to it, you
ask? my dad worked 12 hours a day, some-
times 14; my mom was sick with diabetes.
they couldn't be bothered with squabbles be-
tween the five kids...we were told to just stop
fighting and to get along.

i don't excuse them...just wish they could've
seen the pain and hurt i was going through...

Karla,
I know it is old hat, but the pain you endured while growing up has turned you in such a sweet caring lady. I feel for anyone who has to go through that in their life.

Sweet Lady, with my whole heart I am so sorry for your pain but you are none of those negative things. You make my life brighter and many other lives so, just by being the wonderful, caring person you are. I love you Karla and I'm honored to be your friend.

Words do hurt and you have written a very vivid picture of the pain that comes from abusive words. Karla, you help others by sharing your experience. It shows how much you care for others...and I know Karen does, too--you both are fortunate to have each other. God bless you both!

Sweetie Pie,

You are STRONG! You wouldn't be here otherwise. I am proud of you as we all are. It sux to be a survivor in some ways, better to be cherished, in other ways we keep on, keeping on. Please, for Margaret's sake, stay strong. (I know you will) :)

I was the 5th child and had to deal with the same abuse. I was once told that God does not give you more than you can handle. I am sure because of this you became a stronger person who will bravely defend those in need.
To also speak your mind freely and honesly without abuse. (Thats what it did for me anyway.)

Karla, -- a striking picture of the shadow.
I believe one of the things all human beings are going to have to own if we are going to come out from our own shadow far enough to avoid self-destruction is that humanity has an inate tendency to be all these abominable things just because we come in a human package--Light and Dark. It is a daily choice to lend stronger attention to one side or the other, especially for ourselves. Play the voices of all who see your light as much as possible.
