just because i had cancer and lost my hair,
just because i am confined to a wheelchair,
just because i must wear braces on my teeth,
just because i've a crush on your brother, keith,

just because i happen to be very short,
just because i am not good at any sport,
just because i am terrified of the dark,
just because on my face i have a birthmark,

just because i'm homeless, livin' on the streets,
just because i'm diabetic, can't have sweets,
just because i have to wear thick eyeglasses,
just because i'm failing some of my classes,

just because i've been sick, missed a lot of school,
just because i'm a "nerd," considered "uncool,"
just because i'm clumsy, fall down with a "splat!,"
just because i like to eat, i'm kind of fat,

just because i really, really hate to read,
just because i don't run with any real speed,
just because i'm skinny, kids call me "bean pole,"
just because in my clothes, there's sometimes a hole,

just because i always take the time to pray,
just because i'm sad, my mother passed away,
just because i was burned, i must wear a mask,
just because i can't do the hard math tasks,

just because i need help carrying my books,
just because i haven't got those certain "looks,"
just because i am not rich and have it rough,
just 'cause i'm not your ideal, perfect enough...

don't laugh at me.
