Outside the Days Can Be Dreary

It all depends. Yes, winter sadness...it all depends.

Outside the days can be dreary

Dark and uninviting

Most of the trees can be leafless

And boast no singing birds

Maybe we see no pedestrians

Nor hear playful kids’ loud voices

Maybe on the beaches no bands play

There’s just the sifting of their sands

Outside the days can be gray

But within us they can be bright

It happens when we carry

Our own leaves and birds

Inside us where all those bands

and little kids play.
