The poem writes us. You have most adequately expressed the tug at the arm a writer experiences, and from these the best poems are wraught...including this one.
"But the spirit of life transformed into a magnifying glass
And everything became larger than life
And the images became sharp and focused"
Such magnigicence in that verse

The pen is calling, it insists, and you can't resist.
Great reflexions of the inner battle, and your love for the written word..
They say words are inadequate to describe humanity and its emotions, I think you just proved they are not.
Brilliant piece, the flow smooths the 'not trying' tone, the cadence waxes and ebbs with the ocean of the author's being, his living, breathing ... and writing.
Write on, brother. I really write about nothing sometimes, you know. But here you've managed to write beauty... and to think you almost didn't. Never put down the pen for too long.
Boy, those poems seem to have a mind of their own, don't they? Sometimes they'll start writing themselves in my head and I'll be forced to put them to paper. I'm just glad that hasn't happened in the bathroom. I can't write on toilet paper.

I doubt you will ever be able to "not write," unless your brilliant mind ceases to function and your fingers no longer can move and even then somewhere your muse will have you living a dream and recording it on the scroll of time with your breath.
Great verses - articulated with charm and a bit of humerous self-reflection. Is writing addictive? I guess it might be. For sure the rubber bands are stretching..Franz
glad you did......i am guilty of the very same thing, reading too but i did enjoy you thanks for the little ride ......and like someone said who could resist reading it?
...A man's just gotta do what a man's gotta do!! I love this! This somehow hits the spot with me and is well-written, clever and fun - just great poetry delivered by one cool maestro! Love the way it bobs in and out of focus, like a message in a bottle, on those sharply-etched waves. You may have tried not to write - but, of course, we are so glad you did! One of your best and a keeper for sure! Just goes to show one should never ignore those irresistible urges! TY, Kate xx
I'm glad you wrote. I see you as someone who writes with a pen in a stacks of leather-bound journals. I may be wrong, but your picture and your words make me think that way. I can only write on the computer or a typewriter. But I wish I had a romantic flair with a pen.
Robert, the repetition is exactly right, a stream-of-consciousness, somewhat Joycian meandering... I understand this feeling... for a split second I wondered if you had peered into my head.
The style, the delivery is evidence of the poet being lead by the muse, almost as if you had about as much ability to resist as the rain would have not to be wet! I'm babbling... sigh. I see myself here... now I know at least one person understands. (how odd to say that, in light of your previous piece... hmmmm). katy xox.
It is impossible to ignore when the thoughts pour through us and demand their rightful spot upon the paper. We are only channelers of the inspirations and as such are committed to the write. Excellent free flowing poetry, Robert. I really like this one.
Take care,
Sherry
when the muse speaks, you'd best listen! excellent write! well done, robert! it spoke to me four times today; did four stories today! i was a busy beaver! LOL

A natural writer doesn't need a subject; his writing is all around him or her. Especially liked the "sent without a return address" line b/c we don't know how our words will be taken by the reader; in a sense the writer becomes the inkblot. Good write.
I know it is often harder not to write then it is to write. Inspiration surrounds the storyteller and the poet. Nice choice of topic Robert and nice write.
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
Write on Robert
