~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For a moment you were here and then gone
Like an ambrosial apparition escaping from a candy jar
It’s sweetness just a temporary tang of reality
A flavor, I can still roll in my mouth
A concept I can still taste in my mind
It comes with the territory
Where praise and ridicule
Spin in
From almost another world
Those places where the pious play
With dreams of paradise
Like there can ever be a perfect place
A place that is always changing, shifting
Growing in its importance
That’s perfect enough
That’s a chance to regain focus
And then be lead on
To the land where poets play
And then I wonder
Where you ever really here
Or am I just dreaming again?
Jude I can't add anything to what has already been said. You are a classy poet and I envy your intellectual approach to the written word. It is unusual to find one that can create with intelligence and also imagination. I hope you never give up on dreams...
Still chuckling at Andy's comment, but certainly not at
your poem here, Ace. I like it a lot. The emotions are
so 'familiar." I like just about everything you write.
Oh dear!!! I can feel half a page coming on when I must rein myself in, I know, and keep to 3 (??!!) lines... that's one gone already!! Although this tone is so reflective and gentle, it is just bursting - it seems to me - with a kind of latent energy which in my book is what "the perfect place/paradise" is all about: none of this suspended animation and dossing on clouds for me, thank you very much!! Paradise will be serious playtime: if God is there, the Source of all inspiration, energy and creativity, how can it not be? Somehow here I also get the sense that you refer to dreams as a medium of unreality - when they must be a foundational element, I think, in shaping our very REAL waking realities; after all, our consciousness is probably 7/8 hidden - like the mass of an iceberg. Fndamentally though, perhaps this poem is about the presence of inspiration, which can come through any of our five senses. It's full meaning covers such vast territory: it breathes, infuses, exalts, instructs, causes change, animates... so many things, way beyond the seeming "passivity" of dreaming. Interesting that Linda mentions shape-shifting: the theme of my manuscript - which is a good job, given my interest in it!!... And, unlike inspiration, I really am just going!! TY for the mental gymnastics! LOL Kate xx
You are the ultimate shape-shifter, and you continue to surprise us. The Muse...sometimes she injects pure cocaine into our veins, and we write in a fevered rush where hours go by and we have no sense of time...and sometimes we feel numb, stone cold and stupid. Who knows where it comes from? Brilliant, my friend.
Without a dream we perish,even if they are illusive,inexpicable,or a mightmare, we learn much from them and you have shown us that. May your dreams be fulfilled...
Alluding to the illusive. ...But what is a dream? Is it perhaps parallel time? Is it our thoughts wandering through lifetimes past or those in our future? Could it simply be our mind shorting out as is relaxes, mixing unrelated thoughts into a series of events? It is difficult to sort it out and I wonder if it is necessary or required that we do so. Very nice poetry, Robert, got my thoughts buzzing.
Take care,
Sherry
