Mean spirits scamper across our lives
As jackals play and vultures loom
Hungering to devour our dreams
And encircle the landscape with shadow
And surround everything with darkness
Scattering malaise and distrust
Across the landscape of our emotions
Mean spirits are only effective
If we allow them to
At night I wander through web thoughts
Doing my best not to be ensnared in fibers
Of heartache and vexation
Simply by knowing mean spirits are lurking about
In the cathode reality of electrical pulsations
In optic sensations of external reality
Mean spirits permeate the atmosphere
With unruly concepts and agendas
With subconscious spells
And harmful breaths of myopic vision
All they want is to confuse
And justify their existence
With the facade of their own convictions
So dreamer beware
Mean spirits are everywhere
Even in smiles and laughter
so true!
I work with them! darn.... its sad so so sad.....
because I work with children........and some of my coworkers are so hostile and burnt out.........
its heartbreaking
we make such an impression on the young and unfortunatelly the negative is sometimes more remembered than the positive.............
Somber reminder, Sir Ace. Fortunately, one can generally sense mean-spirted souls near or far. "Myopic vision" sums it up nicely. Well done-- yet again...

The last line is really powerful. This is an excellent warning for being constantly aware of the spirits you talk about. This poem is pure truth.

Awareness of such darkness and having the strength to fly past them is a strength that is learnt by experience. I've had a few nipping at me while I am sleeping, but what can I say? I leave them with an aftertaste of light :-) Seems they don't like that LOL. However I do have a nasty one bugging me at the moment; any suggestions?
You told us of the mean spirits, but can you tell us how to rid ourselves of them...very interesting write, Bob, I had to read it a few times to fully "see" its meaning...Ed & rufuz
You, baby, are so in touch with the real. I don't call you shaman for naught. But we can't go through life in fear. We must simply be aware and look to God for protection from rulers of darkness. Justifying existence... Yes, we all want that actuality, but, importantly, we have the minds and awareness of sentience. With this awareness we need to garner respect and admiration while justifying ourselves, otherwise, we may as well be as obtuse as rocks. Rocks hurt when thrown with carelessness...
A wise and well executed warning, Robert, but you said it all when you said they are only effective if we allow them to be. Walk with wisdom, be aware that the evil and mean lurk, but rise up and never allow anyone to put the bad on you. It is always our decision. Excellent job!

Look on the bright side, as long as you know they are there you can avoid them. I don't know why they exist, it seems they have no life of their own but prey on others.
Going placidly, I think, being "as wise as serpents and gentle as doves" keeps you "slippery" and able to move through the webs that would otherwise ensnare. Knowing that there are predators can either cause us to shrink back in fear and to "close down", or to rise up and "go forth". Prophecy might be sought to be trampled underfoot and destroyed, but maybe that just releases its sweet perfume even stronger, like crushed incense. The ability to discern and distinguish between the intentions and motivations of spirits is a gift that is to be prized, as I am sure it is foundational to the exercise of true wisdom. This write conjures a kind of battlefield or war-zone in my mind and is an eloquent yet subtle exhortation to be continually "on your mettle". TY Kate xx
