False Fire

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some hearts are packed with doubt
For they have been scandalized and lied about
They have been set upon a sea
Of awkward demands
By an obsession of stagnant dreams
Like a river of heated ash
Upon smoldering wishes
They have become submerged in ridicule
Flying into a wound dry and deep
Landing on imposing promises
They care not keep
For they have lost the desire
To live in false fire
No longer a fuel to inspire the illusion
Poignant writing, as eloquent as ever, Robert. As for those hearts...the last line of your poem speaks of a victory of sorts.
Am so very glad to find this from you today. Those "Flying into.." lines say so, so much. And you demonstrate your grace for endings quite well here. Dawn
This smacks me right upside the head! I can taste the rejection, the ridicule, the snubbery... With your keenly honed skill with word weave melded with astonishing creative vision, you've brought grace to an otherwise quite spiritually debilitating situation.
Beautifully crafted, Jude!
Maybe that is the fire that causes the worst burns. May it go out and a may a blessed one be rekindled from its ashes.
this poem speaks to anyone who's been outside looking in
and wondering if its even worth while to join the crowd.
A salve for the talked-about. k
We are nothing less than we believe ourselves to be. Being snubbed or put down is never easy, but we must hold on to what we know as truth and not allow others to obstruct our focus. Only the strong survive and only the strong can become victorious through loving their adversaries, and forgiving them. That which we do not allow to kill our spirit, makes us stronger.
Take care,
Sherry
Truer words have not been spoken. You put this out there and sum it up.
Ah... ooo.. um... yes, this sears with pain and burns with frustration; the subject matter clings like the sedimentary dust that needs a good shake out, and chokes like the sense of ash in the mouth. Yet you still manage to write with a flowing charge of resistance that makes it feel as if sails are already luffing to the breath of fresh breezes. It's tough being the burnt offering on someone else's altar; being reduced to ash and then poked and stoked into resurrection to keep the home fires burning; but a good hairwash always revives! :)) No, I'm not depressed... my humour is still intact! Time to slip anchor and away... Kate xx
