She was always taken for granted
Even when she offered her heart and soul
She knew she had to find a new venue
To recapture her control
Not because she was on a power trip
Not because of all the issues
That filled the minds she knew
But because she had a larger destiny
In what the consensus construe d
She told me she has to reassess
And I replied “seek what’s best”
And not to be concerned
With kissing the ass
Of what appears to be blessed
And with a smile she said nothing
yes, a lot of good advice here for anyone taken for granted, how wrongly a person can be judged by the unsympathetic. I think the subject in this poem would have been mighty relieved to hear a clear

Yes I think Kate is right it is easy to take the advice of others but it is hard to follow ones own judgement. In youth we make rash judgements often, in middle age we are often afraid to make judgements for fear of them being rash, but as seniors we learn to use our brains and experience and figure out what is right...most times. Great write.
Being taken for granted is always bad… and when one becomes conscious of that, reassessment is called for. Sometimes, though, it will follow patterns that would best be changed, so that one won’t fall into the old circumstances that led to be taken for granted, all over again. A fine analysis and an empathic write, in flawless poetic form, as usual.

Ah!! La Sphinxette; or Da Mona Lisa, maybe?! Keeping one's own counsel is perhaps a gracious sign of a developing self-confidence - as long as it is not accompanied by the smug smile of self-satisfaction or arrogance. An encouragement to those of us who are not into power-tripping but are pursuing a course of self-discovery and are on a journey into the establishment of a personal sovereignty, discovering - perhaps for the first time - that the power lies within us and not outside; taking back what has rightfully been ours all along... but which we have either had forcefully taken from us or have just absently and unconsciously given away. This speaks, Jude. I have tried to look at it as a sonnet - which it sounds like, but isn't - and I like the rhyming scheme. It is good and I give it all due respect without falling into the obesequious ass-kissing trap!! :)) TY Kate xx
