~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Out of nowhere a chill fills my spine
Reminds me of ghosts surrounding my rhyme
They live in a verse of long lost words
And haunt me like memories
Not wanting to be heard
Something made them get up and flee
Stripped them of subject and left them with me
They branded themselves onto my mind
Then decided to return and reclaim what they find
A gust of warmth now comes into my soul
The ghosts are now images out of control
I like this Robert. Ghost can be controlled by positivity and fearlessness, of course you already know, I just worded it. Ghost tried to haunt me for years and they did. Something invisible in mind, held my writing hand. Put fear in me, wouldn't let me write. So much for the invisible blocker, I defied, faced up. Now I write as much as I want. The same ghost that held me back, now is an ally. I use the energy I wasted on fearing, add it to aid my strength. G
Jude,
Each word, each thought has its own ghost. A memory of a whisper once made and an idea once voiced. Great capture. But, word to the wise, once you see them, you can't ever un-see them.
Aren't you clever, Jude... ?! Nevermind, I'll answer that... YES, you are. Cuplets perfectly rhythmed to soften the thoughts you're sending here... one level at a time, it's like a muted BLAST! I could feel this absorbing into my head... sat a full minute before commenting.
You're incapable of walking away from the truth, yet you deeply understand your fellow humans' sensitivities. Mesmerized is a tired word, perhaps, but when it fits, it fits. katy xox
Oh, don't stop now! This is great rhyme, Jude. I like this idea of channeling. Some lines do come from 'beyond'...
A step beyond the surrealistic into the super-fantastic where words and ideas confront one with their own amazing agendas. This poem zooms through one's head and heart like a spectral comet.
The ghosts actually came to life, embodied in images. They are making themselves present, even if the poet doesn't want to hear or see... that's the nature of poems, they are entities. Now, they will go wherever they want to, as warm living poems. It is unusual to read rhyming poetry from you, but this one is fantastic.
With excellent rhyme and meter, this poem flows flawlessly, Robert. It is so true how images are dropped on us and beg us to write them so that their stories can finally be told. This has a haunting quality as it tickles the mind of the reader to reflect upon their own experiences.
Take care,
Sherry
An intriguing poem, Jude. The thing about rhyme, especially end rhyme, and the type of rhythm you've employed here is that it seduces the reader with its delightfulness and beat. Consequently, deeper meanings may be cloaked to those who just want to dance. ;-) In a way, all poetry is like that. But more so with rhyme and strong rhythm I think. ~~Nordette
I'm high on the lyrics of Natasha Bedingfield this week; in fact, I almost posted her "Unwritten" whole on Monday! "Read some Byron, Shelley and Keats / Recited it over a Hip Hop beat / I'm having trouble saying what I mean / With dead poets and drum machines... Wastebin full of paper: Clever rhymes see ya later!" Poets seem to live in the ever-present continuum - or at least their work does. And it is wonderful when it makes a fresh impact in the minds and imaginations of those who are receiving its "life" for the first time; what greater testament to immortality is there? If, like Natasha, this poetic communion results in shape-shifting the images and meaning for the here and now, so much the better... perhaps you and Nat ought to get together?! :)) I like this rhyming spin on influence and originality.
