~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We move like leaves blown from a tree of dreams:
Propelled by winds
To an unknown place;
Securing destiny
Among a pile of onward moments
And the resurging pattern of new forms
We shed our blueprint skins-
Restructuring our intrinsic nature
By reweaving the prescribed fabric of our souls:
Roused by an eclipse of what lives ahead
And by the outburst of all we dare to be
Our world convulses in the wake of its dire aftermath:
Melts upon itself the molten shape
Of life’s concentric forces-
Sets its sights upon shifting occurrences
Leaving it tired and frail
Leaving it vulnerable and disjointed
Sending it into convulsions of denial and fear
Like a frantic ghost
It wanders down hallways and diversions
Of what it wishes not to see
Yet acknowledging a burning desire
To be saved
By admitting it’s still alive
Among the ashes of its enduring presence
Like a child left orphaned by nature’s fury
Or the explosion of a terrorist’s agenda,
The world looks so lonely and unwanted
Deep in the venue of a bewildering space
i could hear you speaking this one, jude...and i could also hear what lies beneath the words...the ethereal bells, and softly sighing woodwinds, perhaps a harp...soft, percussive beats echoing beneath the subtle timbre of your vocals...
Bugger! Does everyone else keep getting cut off or is it just me with the amount I write?! OK... top speed... one of your very best metaphysical poems, Jude; great inner tension and outside scaffolding with such strong imaging and phrasing. Seems to me to be a poem of two halves, though that might just be my wonky poetic antennae atdemo - but the "we" of the first two stanzas seem to me to be ascending "triumphantly" away from the desolate death-throes of the lost and lonely world of the last three stanzas. In that way it reminds me of the POV of Distant Earth. Perhaps it IS by stepping out of the box and looking back that we will gain sufficient perspective to perceive the overall truth as to what is consuming our global world, and receive the insight to recognise the ways in which we, individually and corporately, might seek her (and therefore, our!) salvation. Andy is right - she reacts indiscriminately while we are blind to her provocation. We are all corporately accountable for both cause and resolution: Bewildering Space indeed, staring back into that "abyss of unknowing". But we need to know and act before it is too late, perhaps. Better go before the meter runs out.... :)) K xx
This poem is totally awesome to steal a phrase from the youth you have captured the last dying memories of the heart and soul of the earth. Great stuff.
Jude your poem resonates with me in many ways. There is widespread disorder across the globe and I think it is man himslef who is behind this mess as his actions represent serious moral disorientation. I don't know how one can suck order from the breasts of disorder. Excellent poetry
The tapestry of life always changing.
Like the terrorist it shows no mercy.
Nature on the other hand shows no discrimination.
A composition to be studied for its many facets of our general activities. Its philosophic background gives an important support for the glowing of Bewildering Space".
I have learned while enjoying the reading of Bewildering Space".
Fatalistic, though it may seem at times, from the ashes the phoenix will rise once again. In order to get to the light we must travel through the vortex of darkness, maintaining our focus on our destiny and bypassing the diversions of negativity. Lately is seems as though we are caught in a meteror shower of negative forces that are trying to interfere with our appointed pathways. We must gnaw our way through this negativity, digest it, learn from it and use it as fuel to soar on to the next level. These times are like the dregs at the bottom of our coffee, giving us much bitterness to chew before we can refill our cup. It is always darkest before the dawn... Great mind tingling write, Jude. You bend your words so very carefully causing echoing shock waves to radiate through soul of the reader.
Take care,
Sherry
2nd to last stanza is so powerful a description of what I think so much of the world, so many of its people, feel. loved your opening, too, and the idea of shedding blueprint skins. wow - you pack so much in your poems, Jude, that one can return again and again and never tire of them. Dawn
