Shadows of the Wasteland

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In some station of the galaxy
Darkness is the only source of light
Voices echo from within deep caves,
Their dreadful melody dislodged
From the murky contours of the earth
In some distant land
The friendly are dishonest:
Their faces smiling with the scorn
Of a million broken suns,
Emitting words invalid and discontinuous
In some remote, restless wasteland
Death is an eager companion
Where the sick
Refuse to be healed
And decline to consume
The nourishment of altered states
In some foreign body
Motion is the chronic fixation
Of remaining a shadow
Never to return
Or seek to find its source
yes, we all are in darkness hoping to find the light. Write on!
There are those who chase their sick, manipulative shadows and revel in the darkness as opposed to those who are points of light. You and I are of the illuminary type, kindred spirits, points of light who are in constant stellar motion who aspire to challenge the stars in a rival of their brightness. You and I are 10 million times brighter with an unknown interplanetary dust adding our own distant glow, Jude! Lighthouse searchlights we are who blot out the dishonest leaving us a clear view of the firefly!
you always manage to blow me away with some standout image or amazing turn of a phrase. "a million broken suns" did it here. the whole feel of this really takes you to a stark place filled with the hollow cries of lost souls. shadows of the wasteland indeed. Dawn
This is indeed a very dark place to visit and one that we often do before the changes. Your descriptions are chilly bringing to the reader the helpless feeling of depression that such a place would cause. Great write.
Eloquent write about a place I would not want to be. I agree with Eileen.
I like Regis' comment, Jude. :-) Quite the gloom-driven piece sailing solemnly toward Dante's Inferno. What a write!
If there is a hell, this place sounds like it, Jude. Come to think of it, there are times when it feels like that right here. Thank you for this captivating offering. Love and peace,
sounds to me like a place outside of Creator's realm! wherever it is I pity the ignorant souls that chose it. Good one...
Gotta hand it to you Jude, you captured the twilight zone completely, in fact I can just hear Rod Sterling reciting this interesting poetry standing alone, sans light, with a crippled and leperous audience at his beck, but not his call.
Darkness is often the only source of light. Then again it is all relative. Nice one.
In your words the voice is an echo of the soul and it's energy resounds evermore. I admire your deep thoughts on life.
Truly awesome write, intense and deeply in tune with the black side of the universal forces. Great descriptive terms and lines that liven up the body of the poem to heighten awareness of the topic.
I sense a lot of bitterness in this poem Jude. Like the old adage, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."
I did get a chuckle in the first stanza. We never think of sheer darkness as being light, but for some, that is the only light they'll ever know. Sad.
