Each reflection I stare into
I see you standing beside me
Looking back and saying
“He looks so familiar but I can’t quite place who he is?”
And I too wonder who she is
Looking at me with a sense of trepidation
Or is that an expression of admiration?
For some reason I really can’t tell
Or are we emulating each other’s converse affiliations?
Or maybe we are unknowingly in sync
Like parallel universes?
Trying to merge our separate inner selves
My built in shrink
Suggests to me
It’s my female self
Nice juxapositions about how we view ourselves, the paths we take, and how we affect other people. Even if they are all mere thoughts in our minds. Thank you, DL Mullan
The power of reflection through a bounce-back of posture, gesture, facial expression, and life's costume. Few of us realize how much we depend on mirrors to "tune in" to analyze the mass of data on the eyes, flirting blinks, nosewrinkling squints and middle-finger flagging unwritten set of rules, mirror imaging---an age-old way of exchanging interior feelings to hold the self-conscious at bay, the white sclera of the eye reflects our feminine and masculine side, a sacred zone where we steal a glance where the thoughts of her originates...
"I've looked at clouds from both sides now, from up and down, and still somehow, it's clouds illusions I recall, I really don't know clouds at all."
You're the best!

Some how this one got past me as far as reviewing goes. But now I am correcting that. Funny I have read this several times and honestly thought I had done a review. Love the thought wave in this one, as it explores possibilities ending with a delightful theory :-) Perhaps it could be both? ...........seeing and thinking of her through your female self :-)
This is a beautiful write my friend, I thoughts of this wonderful muse were that of a lady friend whom may also be your kindred spirit. I believe that we each have a person whom we are destined to be with, and if we wait and listen carefully to our hearts, vision, or sometimes a dream, we will recognize and find the person whom we are destined to share our life and happiness with. Tremendous write...anxious to read more...

Awesome peceptions for me to read! I am very much enjoying your pen work here in the den. Your gifts are desirable, although, some comments confuse the purity. R.
This sooooooooo appeals to me... everything about it, especially, perhaps, Janet's response!! Can relate, bein somewhat of a tomboy, personality wise. But I'm guessin, from the height/size ratios evident from your photographs, you'd have a hard time trying to squeeze into MY jeans at least, Suga! :)) The mind games and word play are divine: that cheeky "converse" and the metaphysical "trepidation": very suave. The whole mirrors-thing is fascinating... not just for the narcissism or the interrogational implications (like the two-way mirrors used by inquisitors, which sets up the trepidation-thing nicely)... but for the whole psychological reflection/shadowing investigation. Are there three of you??? If she/you is beside you, then who is looking into the mirror? That should make four, actually. I'm caught between the beside and infront. Lots of suggestion both of discovery and the fear of, perhaps. But to even begin with the premise that the "two" are perhaps alter egos is to suggest a certain degree of intimacy and comfort with each other to start with, which would discount the trepidation. My main reason for liking this is because it DOES make me realise that we look into mirrors, not to be satisfied, but instead to seek out and to ask questions, and then to find in them the answers. This is my kinda mad house... Right I'll dribble off now... the dentist bled anaesthetic down my throat today, too, which may account for why I have no poem readily on my lips tonight. It's good that I can be quiet, though, init?? :)) Klammed-up K xx
This describes an existential struggle...to live we assume us to take different forms (in our imagination), even while sleeping we assume. Taking a feminine form is suggestive of an androgynous soul. I like the image of "parallel universes".
Jude,
This poetry opened my senses to our mirrored-self, within ourselves. The night before last the moon was full and it was casting it's brightness from the left...the porch light from the back...noticing, the shadows that were cast, my 4 yr old said, "Mommy...There are two of me, one in front and one on my right...then as he moved around he could make them come together...that's where his true excitement could be seen! Somehow, this poem reminded me of that special night!
Thank you Jude...
Great write! I can see you coming together! Smiles!
Love and Peace~

Excellent.
It's good to look in and find a friend, not so good to look in and find a stranger,(unless it's a welcoming kind stranger)hopefully we all can find harmony when we view our mirror within.
Best wishes always

interesting thoughts Jude and I think you are facing your own inner demons of love with an openess that few are willing to use. To question ourselves is to open ourselves to vunerability and that seems to be what you fear most here. Well done old friend.

Mines full of those crazy mirrors you get at the fun fair...
WOW some finale, yeah women do that to us, make us see life from a whole new dimension, whether lovers or friends...
I like the simplicity and honesty of your questions set alongside the house of mirror imagery, which gave me a bit of a jolt as those fun houses seriously spook me. could really "see" the mirrored halves "trying to merge." for what it's worth, I find I see better when I descend into the depths of my heart, without the cold distractions of my many-mirrored thoughts. but I'm glad you stayed with the mind as it broadens the horizons a bit and brings up interesting possibilities. always appreciate how you shake it up, Jude, and manage to maintain some steady poetic imprint that is all your own no matter the content of your work. guess they call that voice... Excellent poem, I like the idea of converse affiliations. The ending is perfect. Victor
Just thought I would stop by. I've been missing your poetry. These lines are a little too spooky because I dreamed about you last night: "My built in shrink Suggests to me It’s my female self, In the dream, you were a transexual. You made a beautiful woman, by the way.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
