Very well done, certainly makes the reader ponder and think about that concept, first thing that came to mind was how bland and boring life would be without words.

Excellent concept. I think the first two lines suggest that words are actually a falsehood in a way, blocking the real truth (covering the naked flesh of thoughts). It's wonderful to see a poet remarking with sincerity about this subject. Great write.
... resisted the temptation of leaving an empty dialogue box! :)) Too overcome with words as per u... Yes, clothes: ill-fitting and cumbersome most of the time. Also never the right shade or cut to match the mood, I find! :)) And, like crinolines and bustles, they largely just get in the way of business... But I love the purity of this newborn-babe image, especially endorsing Sherry's observations about their innate psychic capacities... that's probably why we often feel uncomfortable when being inspected and penetrated by a newborn's eyes. I can't figure out just when we lose this baby wombiness, this ability to STILL feel intuitively part of all the spiritual and mental processes operating around us before we self-seal hermetically and become an intellectual island. OK, that's the baby-stuff over... What I REALLY like about this is the adult version: the analogy of the rebirth, or the breaking through into a different plane of experience that is telepathic and sensorial, rather than that which is lumpily expressed through material-type concepts of communication... always doing more to widen gaps between individuals than close them. I spose it largely depends on what form of communication is going down between peeps.. if just Level 1 swapping of weather-notes, then so be it; words will do. But if the traffic is of a different order and of the deepest kinds that even the psyche of self wrestles with, then words are of no or little use at all. So the analogy of clothes is a good one, covering the real flesh of meaning, in other words. I endorse the idea that doing away with the coverings of words is akin to embarking and participating in the process of a form of new-birth... But, of course it would be... like the shedding of skins. Right, better go as I've overloaded your concise and evocative couplets wonderfully. Let your spirit do the talking is a good maxim to live by; an aura can convey so much more and far more effectively and quickly than rough-hewn words. I'll cut loose and give your ears a break! Inside your capsule of wordlessness lies the doubt and hesitancy of mankind. What a unique and agreeable way of saying the obvious, and how we've adjusted to the wearing of wordy clothing. A Goodun'! Indeed!

Interesting analogy. I think this may be the way early man communicated before there were any words. Words are powerful and they are two edged swords. Words have the power to heal and the power to hurt. This is a thought inspiring piece beautifully written.

Jude, this is one of your best poems...it says so much with simplicity and makes one wonder...what would a world be without words. I'm glad we hear words and read them too because we obtain wisdom, knowledge, and truth from words and words often tell what is in the heart of another...this is a treasure. On the other hand words can be dishonest, deceitful, and evil but this is what makes an interesting world.
Jude, I have a good friend who spent a week at a monastary in Washington DC, where no words were spoken. He said from the moment you entered to the time you left...it was total silence, no words spoken. He was allowed to write though...but he didn't, he saved his words until he left at the end of the week. The result was a flood of prolific words that flowed for sometime after...Excellent write.
Some interesting concepts in your poem "Naked Words". I love those first two lines. The idea your exressed of a world without words made me think of the nomads who drew pictures on cave walls to express thoughts. (Bet that would slow us all down a bit.)

One of my ancestors said "Hugg!!!Hugg!!!" about a million years ago, he was the first poet in my family, when he could utter inteligible words he didn't go bard, he used them to quarrel with his wife.
That's goes to show that the naked words never got a stich on.

this poetry provokes the thoughts, perhaps evolution is telepathy, feelings, and visuals a time when words lose their power and domination, but what would a poet be without words?
I have learned that babies really don't need words, they have a keen ability to "read" our thoughts. Try thinking something funny and watch a baby grin or giggle. I believe that once we learn language, we lose that ability since we no longer have the need to use it. So it is with colorful verbage, once we discover it, we lose the need to show our own true colors. We learn to use words to convey how we want people to view us and not necessarily how we are. Words are one of the world's greatest cover ups. Excellent pen, Jude, you certainly force the gray matter to start churning with this one.
