~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His thoughts are smooth
Like water rippling across the surface of a Mercury desert
Formed by the liquidity of a vaporous mass
They flow like granules of melted sand
Transmitting through fingertips,
Where irregular curves of emotion
Search for meaning within crystallized shapes
His modus operandi of creative speculation
Is saturated by an oasis of dreams
Living in a mirage of circumstantial conclusions
With the confidence of an expanding galaxy
He interprets the stardust of life and death
Through the alchemy of blood and ink
He never fancied leaving a legacy,
Rather concentrates on leaving a memo
In the soil of resurrecting atoms
To remember where he is going
And what he has done
It seems to me that the MO and MV of the subject of this poem are as liquid as his thoughts... constantly on the MOVE! :)) Fabulously lucid imagery and metaphors for such an intangible subject; I particularly like "the alchemy of blood and ink" (the fusion the the two types of "breath" through which we live) and "the confidence of an expanding galaxy". I find that notes are dead the moment they are written and I only use them as "thought compost", mulling them over and mulching them in on each revisit, breaking them down into their relevance with the Now. This makes me think of a fast-flowing river... it appears still and yet the Now (if viewed as time) is only a visual point which consists of "what was" before it moves on to "what will be" further downstream. Yet both can only really be considered through the sights of where we now are. In this way, the Memo is both resurrection and direction. Both our history and our future are always encapsulated by the Now. Think I've repeated myself enough! xx
I am often fascinated by poems on memory. This is just one of those works that concentrate so many feelings and thoughts about memory in a few lines. Lovely.
What we leave behind is probably more about how we lived our life and how many lives we touched during the years we spent here. However, writing down our words may very well give us the ability to continue touching souls long after we leave this place. Our memos will be more like a tap on the shoulder or a smile than they will be monuments in celebration of us. This is a full plate of tasty morsels to digest, Jude. Excellent pen.
Take care,
Sherry
There are so many analogies to interpret here...and I'm sure they can be deciphered in an array of ways...If we were write down every meaning, it would be so much more than a memo...and just leaving that will suffice, for within our little memos throughout life, a world of meaning and memories can play out. I save mine, along with a lot of other, reminders...and with each one, I can remember the day, the place, the people, the way I felt and why...the blood and ink...
Excellent pen, Jude~
Happy New Year! I'm still keeping my memos!
Love and Peace~
hehehee i wrote another 'A list' poem recently, to avoid writing all those 'things to do' type lists, hm - 'the alchemy of pen and ink', memos, esp. good when one has a terrible memory and tendency to lose things...maps to store and share- now showing online at a place near you, a library of photo albums - some memos are pretty amazing to read - eeee, it's better than tv, or even the movies! As good as a good book! Songs! I love poetry today :o) Good poem Jude - cheers and a very happy new year to you, Nicky xx
I think the important thing is to do what represents us personally, because that will be closest to what was in our heart and soul, whether a memo, letter, or whatever...Excellent poem on a topic that should be considered, as you have so finely done,in your unique way!
Dear colleague Jude, Your poem is great and please allow me to add: In order to know from where we come and where we go, we need real grace. And there are few who have psssed this human challenge and hurdle and those will never write but they will approach you from within. God Bless you in your endeavor and Happy New Year. Emile
