~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
surrounded
by creative invertebrates
and emotional handicappers
suspended
above the swollen flooring
of sacrilegious slaughterhouses
flapping their twisted hooks
in frenzied angles
of lethal defilement
contorted by voices
disguised as repressed
patterns of poetic dictation
pointing to weary conceptual longings
copyrighted by contemporary hordes
longing to integrate
with award winning masters
masturbating each other
into the backlash of primordial winds
thrown into shallow torrents
left to drown
in pulsating
waters of wonderment
revived
encapsulated in another lifetime
where poetry is the creation of its own death
Certainly no shortage of intensity in these lines :-) They fill this reader's consciousness like a shamanic exit from one plane and re-entry into another, a swirl of life, misery, love, and the essence of existence itself all in the making and the mixing. Much gratitude,
Aberjhani
hey jude - remember to let her into your heart and then you can start...
always begin humming the beetles when coming across your name - sorry - had to indulge myself
what a proverbial slap in the jaw and spin of the yarn, you poet you.
hmm...really masturbating each other? pray tell.
always - enjoy your work.
This poem not only questions the integrity of the so called contemporary art and poetry circles, but also decadence of creativity as a whole.
yes how this defines so many on this .... well
Your pen is double-edged in this excellent thought process and the last line is quite Zen-like. Enjoyed!
Now THIS is poetry!!! And in that I'm including this whole creative page: your words together with the derived responses is what makes the art form live and breathe and have its being. It's a word-pulse that quickens, sending shots of recognition in whatever form through both sense and sensibilities. And we, it's devotees, just can't get enough of it, whether good, bad or ugly. Where it's self-destruction comes in, perhaps, is when it becomes yet another means of the measure of success, some guage of self-worth or acheivement, rather than just the beauty of being what it is in its own right.
Funny how your work seems to pair-up in my mind; this is a Creative Distance-ing of the most excruciating form, and a good explanation of why Companionship Of Aloneness might be the way to go! That being said, today will always be hard for you, things being what they are; you seem to slip through spiritual doors so easily and to straddle uncomfortably at times the fence between the now and the not yet. But you will survive revived, for certain sure, because you seem to live your life as if encapsulated (with)in another lifetime. I shall cast flowers upon the waves down on the beach today, to partake in such pulsating waters of wonderment.
You sure said a mouthful there Jude, the whole life of a certain species all integrated into one art form, incisive sentiments, in one poem the size of a book. Bless you! Jasmin Horst
Interesting thoughts and certainly probably a lot of truth in what you say. Perhaps it would be well to say that with regard to poetry and writers thereof; there are those aspiring poets (innovators) who partake of poetry, and there are those who create it. The heart of the true poet must decide the dividing line. Great poem, Jude.
you feel like this? i felt like that the last time i hadnt had a good shagging for ages and went to a poetry group reading or two in North America - what a bunch of weirdos we humans are...Jude, is your poem a bit depressing? i like poetry today, i'm quite fond of it -have just read Ms Sherry's review, and don't agree with the part where she says that poetry is 100 years dead, but in revival, evolving online. Apparently the people at The Accounts Department say more people read it and write it than ever before(pure poetry, population increase and the music industry not included somehow by way of clever mathematics:) so although i like your scoober diving line 'pulsating waters of wonderment revived..', the rest of this poem i need to think about from the point of view of 'creative invertebrates and emotional handicappers' a little longer...hmm, i have had a realization right here and now: i think clams and certain species of crab are quite sexy! Do you think i might need therapy? As usual, food for thought here on your page Jude - thank you :)) xx
The first idea that struck me after reading this was the pretense so many writers have...that exaggerated sense of self importance. I don't know...maybe it's just me, but that was what I took from this. Anyway...well written piece, Jude...as always.
A lot is said in this write Jude, and a lot more is left sublime between the lines. The meanings are complex and a lot can be read into some of the phrases..."masturbating each other into the backlash of primordial words" for example could be read to mean people who write reviews that never say anything but praise. Well done and a lot to rething and hash out here.
Poets are a strange breed, particularly those who think that they are "all that." Unfortunately, poetry is 100 years dead, but there are still those who believe that it will be their ticket to fame. They talk among themselves and pump each other up waiting to see if one of them can change the minds of society and breathe life back into a long dead art form. Hopefully, those of us who write poetry do it for the love of it and in the hope of enlightening even one person. There are a lot of poets on this site who would be a household word today if the art form were appreciated. Sigh...it is what it is. Excellent work, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
"...contorted by voices..." "...longing to integrate..." and yet, "...where poetry is the creation of its own death..." and the poet wanders in a labyrinth that have no beginning and no end, just and ongoing question inside himself that can't have an answer.
I was going to highlight my favorite part of this, but it's the whole thing. I feel creative death anytime i am with a bunch of writers. The posturing and pretension drives me insane. That is what this made me think of. It's great to read really good poetry.
