~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a blaze destroyed a row of shops
except for a music store
there’s a solitary note hanging from its storefront
beaming through the after-smoke
across the night
ambers smolder in a haze of molten mist
a lullaby of fire trucks
dissipates in the distance
burned out after a long drive;
falling asleep, sweating timbre
Note, music burns itself, nothing can burn music, and like your writings it can burn souls with solace, never with anger.
And they will sweat high G's.
Such an unusual visual at the end of this, Jude. Most would be in the street rubber-necking. Great job with contrast here. Hugs,
such a vivid capture of a deeply stirring situation that is experienced both in the external and internal landscapes. You manage to combine the two here seamlessly and, as always within these compact writes, you take us through many mixed emotions and levels of consciousness. It's uncanny sometimes how an actual event in real-time can either trigger some parallel deeper unsurfaced feelings or realities, or give shape to them. This could be an articulation of the experience of shock within a "live" event, or the high-fever of a stress-level inner "haunting" or deep agitation. On a light-hearted note, it give me a picture of you lying prostrate and covered in post-its... but that's probably just me cos my WAIL-pile (Worry About It Later!) has grown to very disturbing proportions since my return from Spain and before my move to London next week! :)) Whatever... just love that use of timbre, word play perhaps with "timber" but suggesting as it does both inner/outer voices as well as the timpani of accompanying sounds... in turn, echoing that rapid heartbeat. So much in so few lines!! You give us great value here, Kartero! Keep-Kool Kate xx
Jude,
"Hot Sleep" can be taken in many ways. Sometimes it is good to have a "hot dream", it makes us realize we are still alive and able.
Watch out for those ambers that smolder in a haze of molten mist, you might have another hot sleep!
Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
Your pen paints portrait images, Jude. I have lived in fire plagued areas most of my life, waking to ashes falling from the sky, the world covered in a smokey haze and the sickeningly-sweet smell of so much char. After a fire there is a feeling of futility that eventually fades into hope as we watch the determination of nature or the human spirit begin its rebuilding. Wonderful work, love the humor of "sweating notes".
Take care,
Sherry
