... this seems more or less on the money! :)) 'cept more honey and more funny might add a bit of sunny here and there. Appetite is, of itself, self-regulating and naturally reaches a sufficiency. Trouble is, canny producers keep up the ceaseless flow of choice - THAT's the root of greed. I often feel physically sick when faced by the plethora of stuff on towering shelves in supermarkets. The same old same old keeps gettin repackaged as something new, exciting and "must-have" when mostly just the basics are sufficient for most needs. The most elusive and precious thing is contentment and, happily, that cannot be bought but must be found... within. Thankfully, less is always more with you, Kartero.. :)) xx

I had to respond to this poem. I just finished watching a program showing mansions of the wealthy and its absolutely mind-boggling that anyone could want to live in a place where their kids could get lost or the couple could go for days or weeks on end without ever seeing each other. Your poem parallels this concept of more space by the rich in an opposite light.

Spot on for human nature Jude. They more we receive the more we want. We've become a greedy society and there's no solution. I'm designing a new sample page for new members to select from at my website that's called "A Simpler Time, A Peaceful Time". It brings back memories of my youth when survival was a struggle but we didn't realize it as such until we evolved into a more affluent style of living. LOVE your poem.

that is why people need to slow down, embrace nature, look at what is right in front of them and appreciate less rather than more. I have this as my mantra. Simplicity is my life, complexity shall not reign in my world. I work on it everyday!

After all from the earliest times man has lived under the premise that to the victor goes the spoils from cave men taking as many women as he could ge, to Countries monopolizing smaller countries for oil, to the little boy who's eyes light up looking in a toy store window is not greed a part of what makes human human...hmmnnn interesting, I want to think of this sime more...

I'm guilty of wanting a few things on your list. But for the most part, less of more would be better... at least as a lesson.

A question. I too want more. Am I just as guilty? I want more love, more respect (not due to what I own), more peace in the world, more unspoiled land, more animals from shelters, more poetry, more validation by the world-at-large for artists. There, I've answered my question. I have another question. What if earth turned into paradise? Everyone satisfied with what they have, everyone getting along, all bellies full, etc. Would life be boring as hell? I often wonder if humans need conflict. If we lived in paradise, would we write poetry? Which is more important, happiness or art? Life or art. You know the anecdote about the Van Gogh and the cat, right? if a priceless Van Gogh painting and a mangy alley-cat were both going under in the ocean, which (morally) do you save? Well, you save the mangy alley cat. Um sorry for the ramble. PS: is wanting more sex bad? If it's love-related?

Everyone is wanting something for nothing, these days, and many of those feel that someone else should be working to provide it for them. The American Dream is not guaranteed, it exists only if we make it happen for ourselves. Nothing has changed other than we have become lazy and have forgotten that we, alone, are responsible for making our dreams, our reality. There is a big difference between a hand up and a handout. We have been getting and asking for way too much of that latter. Thought provoking, honest poetry done as only you can, Jude.
