~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i wander through my skeletal borders
clear of stain glass windows,
listening to the faded clamor of church bells
rock in the distance
i search for a cosmic cross
but no steeples are visible
my dreams and desires are pixilated prayers
calling to the deity of electric stone
i am alone except for a constant choir
singing from the pews of dawn
... Hmmm.... what's with all this stone, I wonder? Is it me or do we all seem to have it on the brain?! Its idiom was certainly running through a few of my last NaPoWriMos. And Plinth? Unusual for you to use a word in title that is not suggested in the summation of your final lines. To me this is sounds like an after-death, out-of-the-body experience; a crossing over guided by the singing pews of dawn, spoken from the depths of deep, faith-examining, heart-and-soul searching. What I especially like is the play on words: the "clear of stain glass windows" expressing perhaps uncluttered clear-sightedness, together with that cheeky "pixilated" which, in another spelling, makes us think of high-colour definition and refraction of light from an artist's use of pointillism (a throw-back to the "pixelating" of the stain glass?). And since glass is a derivative of sand, thus of stone, this all fizzes together beautifully as a dance between light and stone... Something like that, anyways! You might enjoy what El Levante left me with, in that case... Kosta Kate xx
The Milky Way has its own prism of rainbow Light in place of stain glass windows you can walk right through and feel the sermon disintegrate into falcon bells ringing on their legs, neon charged sex in place of the choir, orgasmic pitch plinth!
If I were to interpret, I would say the ringing in your ears is not from the church and that praying will not help. The church fades from view.
Such a powerfully thought out poem.
Cosmic cross: no steeples. The dawn chorus.
That choir can get pretty noisy! You seem to be restless these days....
Jude, there is a tone of askance in your poem -- ever searching, ever seeking the hows and whys -- gently probing the what ifs of life -- may peace and love be always with youwith you my friend -- Jon Michael
So gritty, yet so full of a gentle soul that screams out in pain. Wonderful poetry.
Jude,
I love what Regis said about Simon and Garfunkel's I am a rock, because, Shaman Man, you certainly are...I know it is a struggle everyday with the eyes, I have my own sight thing going on also..
Your metaphor about "my dreams and desires are pixilated prayers, calling to the deity of electric stone" had my mind wandering in a few directions, so I looked up pixilated in the dictionary to get a better handle on what you were saying, and it all became clear to me..
I truly believe that better days are coming, more carefree and meaningful ones are ahead for you. It will be time to have your peace and love and live the rest of your life, without too much chaos and stress.. Health is around the corner, just think positive and it will be there...I wish only the best and most for you my dear man, You of all people deserve it!!!
Much peace, light and love,
Amber
I love that last line "singing from the pews of dawn" for to me watching the sun rise is such a spiritual event.
There is so much deep emotion here, especially in these lines:
Searching for comfort from a higher source is impossible when we think of ourselves within the confines of our flesh. Higher power comes from higher thought and once we move into that spiritual place, all of the loving support we have always been searching for, bathes us. It is that spiritual space, where we find our center and true peace. Excellent work, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
Truly fine and meaningful verses, Jude; I am reminded of Simon and Garfunkel's song, "I Am A Rock." Thank you. Love and peace to you,
