I don’t wait too long for my shadow
to catch up to me
actually, I don’t have much of a choice
unless I decide to hide in the bushes
or take a swim
in an indoor pool
or travel to a very misty sea
or perhaps the really cold, murky East River
or shower under the rainy trees in Central Park
sometimes, my shadow just disappears
from my angle of perspective
maybe it decides to detach
and visit the Bronx Zoo
to surreptitiously watch
the lions, tigers, and bears
and i'm left looking into parallel directions
where there’s no one to talk to
so I think of silhouettes and in metaphors
then again, Bellevue’s not too far away
but I rather go to the Bowery or the Cloisters
or perhaps a jaunt to MOMA
maybe visit papa’s grave
or mother’s bones
I walk in front myself
so I can see what I’m leaving behind
the art I visualize
are pictographs of words
filtering through my mind
choosing which colorful blur
to look for
while writing my memoir onto the pavement in chalk
waiting to hail an unlicensed cab
just to crash into another
one of my dashboard dreams

Your poem brings me right to my childhood, when I would visit my relatives in the Bronx. The zoo, central park all part of my history. Recently though, I finally went to the Moma with adult eyes, and it is one fantastic place to spend hours of your day.
Such idyllic thoughts here in this poem, kinda like a day in the mind of Jude. wow it is definitely one superb thought after another. It kept my interest from the opening line until the finale!
You are a genius, Sir Jude! Keep on writing, it's always a pleasure to read your work.
Much peace, light, and love,

When I was a Mommy, I had eyes in the back of my head, but they were slowly absorbed into my brain to become wisdom and experience for my post-Mommy life.
Anyway, back to your poem, I enjoyed seeing into your mind as you shared your dashboard dreams. You surely own the most interesting shadow I have encountered!

Take care,

And you do it extremely well. As one who often hides in bushes attempting to hide my shadow from frightened animals I'm trying to catch, I can relate.
Best wishes and love to you and yours
