~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                       I respire in afterthoughts
         last night’s visions
                coexist within bated breaths of reasoning
               the fan above my head hums puzzling verses,
                spinning
      off-key imagery with blurry dilemma
                              I exhale
    vapors of existence circulated by mock breezes
                              I inhale
         choking on
                 the ways humanity subjugates its own being
               I hear the howl of babies and old men
         screaming into the darkness
  gagging on the vapors of conflict and adversity
               I have not given up on breathing
                               just yet
                 though I wish I could hold my breath forever
                                          the smoggy horizon
                 is within my breadth
                                                  but not palatable to my dreams
                         I’m just trying to prevent
the world from suffocating my voice
                            I don’t know
         I’ll just continue breathing
as long as the situation deems it necessary
                 at least, until the final wheeze
Jude, Jude, Jude!!! I feel every letter you write here, knowing that you could even be writing about me. But others feel the same when they read you. You are a true gift that you can write on a deep level of humanity. Thank you, thank you, as I bow to your gift. ;)
... respire, exhale, inhale, howl, breathe, gag, suffocate, wheeze... all your various in-and-out-takes of breath here are as precarious and rickety as that maladjusted fan, Amigo, creaking, humming and circulating its malevolent dust. This version is so much stronger than the first and you have made some good and bold moves in re-writing it. It seems to me that you have used the first draft as a strong foundation on which to construct this next. I love how you stress the difference between having your voice "suffocated" and you conversely "holding your breath"; the former suggestive of having life taken from you, the latter of your desire to "hold onto breath" and therefore escape. I also like the potential for dead-pan humour or synicism here: life being just a "wheeze", a trick, a sick joke even, perhaps... Don't listen to that ol' fan... He's just muddying the waters with rumour and speculation, making a parody of life! And so onwards to dream juice (m) we go... xx
Jude
When I hear the word "Wheeze" I remember Mogadishu bīcoz I thought that only bullets wheeze. Now a friend is determined to breathe till the last wheeze. Love the thoughts of your beautiful mind.
I only wheezed recently with the flu. But I sense your looking at a much larger loss of breath in the way humanity is squeezed to serve its master, the hierarchy of money.
HeyJude, There is something going on here. I am either having a Deja Vu experience or I am losing my mind. Somehow, I feel that you have already written this poem and I remember commenting on it previously, but I tried to find it and there is nothing in your den. So help me here, you have re edited this one haven't you?
At any rate, if I am in another dimension, I will comment once more,
Your voice is a loud and clear, it rings true, it is truth, and it is a voice of a true poet!!!!!
Much peace, light, and love,
Amber
air not only in several forms
but in emotional dimensions
we breathe our very souls
for me, Jude, the title is a little ironic
but of course our last breath is usually a
whimper, a fade, a wheeze
stay well
You are singing my sing, Jude. I am one of those old men "screaming into the darkness." We came into this world screaming, I suppose it is only natural we leave it the same way. Still . . . Some of us scream with different voices and hope it makes a difference.
