For My Happy Healthy Friend Rudy.

He looks at me with those sad brown eyes,
Asking me, “where’s my dinner?”
I ask him back, “Where is mine?”
I sacrifice for you all the time.

I go hungry to buy you food,
When I’m in that kind of mood.
You are just a dog,
Don’t you understand?

I give to you first,
Because you are my charge.
Just be glad,
You're not at large.

Diving in dumpsters,
Like so many of your brothers.
You are luckier than the others.

Because for you my dog,
So much I care,
I'll do the diving.
And with you I'll always share.
