Rear View

You always scared me

This fear I long held

Someday you would disappear, slip away

Leave me to myself

My insecurities, my issues

My own self-fulfilling prophecy

Did you leave or did I

Drive you away

Two souls struggling, in the turbulence of a

Crashing sea of change

Pulling each, under

In a deadly embrace

Caught in the riptide of emotion

Forced to release, the fragile grip

Soon washed away, carried adrift

Still, I do search

These rolling swells of asphalt

On this morning, commute

Down this highway, shrouded in fog

In a state of wonder, as how these feelings surfaced

Floated up a new, all because I thought

For a brief second caught

A rearview glimpse of you

Alone

Head up, eyes forward

Silent

...that final strophe was culminating... . ending. ..
blending how souls can become intertwined and that last long look after separation can sometimes barely be deciphered:: is that you or me im staring at? which one of us is leaving? being left?
but also, this feels like a whole life, not jsut a person. ..
it has the introspectiveness of awareness of self, trying to change their soul. ..or leave a mark. .and the ghost of what we were, what we've done, keeps behind us always. ..
and we get to a point of unrecognition, of where am i?
such double intendres.
and i love the silence bereft and stoic in the finality.

I think whenever we lose someone we love (for whatever reason) one of the hardest things to face is that first someone we see looks like them or sounds them or says something just as they would.. I remember the first time it happened to me and it was tough.. This is quite a poignant piece of writing....

A case of the door that wouldn't totally close with the hope that whatever going/pushed/commanded out, like a boomerang, returned.
You will wait for a long time.
Silence will allways return.

This work could be a scene in a 50's dark, black and white melodrama, or a sad love song...or the fine poem that it is.

Thanks,
Dan
