Modern day slaves!
For a bowl of food he works,
Slave labour,
He was never asked,
The hours, always,
No overtime pay, or bonuses,
Just serious work, always!
No play, when his nature calls,
No simple bodily functions in the now,
Waiting, straining, unnatural,
Stressed in his being, I presume,
Growing blind to joy,
And bouncing happiness,
Just a leash, and strong hand,
A cane, a sign, don’t pet I’m working, should be,
Can’t you see?
I’m his eyes,
Focused,
Not happy, not paid, not me,
He, cannot, what I do see,
One wrong turn maybe,
A sharp tug,
Will right my way, immediately,
A slave in chains, or harness,
I give my life,
Like Jesus on the cross,
But I carry his also,
Much further than the Rio De la Rosa,
Up a very long and steep hill,
But no one picks up my load,
No temples they build in my honour,
No oblates, or wine, they reach in my memory,
Just a dog I am,
A guide dog, leading the blind,
Serving man,
Have pity on us Oh Lord!
Yet somewhere it says,
Ask and it shall be given,
Did you?
Yet you pray!
But you take from the Lords plate,
You steal a life,
You did not ask me, did you?
Your burden though, you passed onto me,
You are a slave master,
Yet you pity yourself as a humble human being,
Humanities chains you laid upon me,
You wear uniforms,
And make me salute,
Bite and be a brute,
I rescue your body,
Yet you enslave my soul,
Have me shot, to keep you whole,
Make fear, my natures call,
To instil in others all,
A good and playful heart I had,
That our breed and mother shared,
You turned me into you, and more,
Now also fight, in wars of guts and gore,
My life you take,
From bullets sharp,
Or crippled lay in fields of blood,
That humankind made sport,
Fight for what,- I ask?
Such dirty work, you make my task,
Search your souls, instead your fortunes,
There it lies abundant,
Dig it up, from dirt so deep,
You, make all, of nature weep,
Work you have to do yourself,
Instead from misery and pain,
Or from slaves your heavens gain.
Be always safe,
Karen

We humans have enslaved many creatures over the centuries, yet far too many humans don't even appreciate the things these god-given creatures have done for us all.
Truly, truly sad, my friend. And thanks for your comments about War Dogs; because of you, I learned something new today.
Somber but truthful writing.
