Hanging from a tree,
A sweet dead child I see,
A child of God,
A child of the forest,
The jungle deep,
Life all around,
A cacophony of sound,
Colour and perfume,
Silence when I come near,
All are hiding now in fear,
Yet in the distance,
My presence unknown,
Innocence still sings its song,
Should I have come quieter?
Like a snake in the grass,
Before my poison they know,
Coming nearer and nearer,
This sound of death comes clearer,
Buzzing chainsaws now I hear,
All creatures hiding out in fear,
Devastation nears my path,
A little monkey hurrying away,
No more trees from which to sway,
No more brothers with which to play.
Hanging from a tree,
A sweet dead child I see,
This dead child is me,
Gaia she is dead,
No other mom, I have instead,
The chainsaw rapist
He is still free, on innocence insists.

As Brother Georg pointed out, we've already chain-sawed down over half of Earth's forests, and mostly all of them within the last 200 years. I shudder to think what the next 50 years will leave Mother Earth and her furry children with.
Where is the housing you ask, monkey-man...that's you problem!
Georg
I admire you for speaking up for the animals that are being needlessly killed by man. Your poem cuts straight to the heart and makes one angry and sad at the same time.
Mary
What happens to so many animals doesn't bear thinking about. I wonder if sometime down the track, we can say the world is not a cruel place.
Be well, Liz
Be always safe,
