Is it in the food we eat?

It cannot be, old ugly me they're fighting over, I do have on put on my wedding ring I think.....

Na, I must be seeing things,
I mean come on now,
How could this be?
The food is free,
And there is plenty of,
Yet here they are,
Fighting in the tree,

Both my favourite little ones,
Peg and Angelface,
Chasing each other,
Admonishment not bothers,
Is it in the food I wonder?
It can’t be me,
The guy from down here yonder,

I closed my hand and looked at them,
You are making me sad I said,
You’re are getting to be like us,
Greed is too, our cuss,
Booth had plenty just before,
And they surely know,
There’s plenty of, always more,

Either angry or ashamed,
They flew off yonder,
I called them once or twice again,
But now they held me in disdain,
A bit colder now the chill,
I travelled homeward,
Strange thoughts my heart did fill.©06/12/2009

Jasmin, I think they may both be examples of those suffering from the old adage,"the more you get the more you want" - of course I cannot be certain, but it seems so to me -- peace and love be always with you my friend -- Jon Michael

We have hummingbirds most of the year and there is plenty for all. Still they are each so intent on keeping the others away, sitting guard duty in a nearby branch, that nobody eats. Now doesn't that sound familiar? Patrick

Pure soul of Jasmin admiring their innocence when it possibly is you who has become more pristine in your admiration of them and care for them than it is they in their competition.......Jerry

I spend hours refereeing poodles, none of them are mean just greedy for the attention, toys and treats. Enjoyed the poem Jasmin.

Don't get your soul in a twist, they are just teasing you as you love to tease us. It is a "did for that" kind of thing, nothing personal, something between the birds and the Whisperer, though.

It is you, my friend. Animals truly do have many of our traits; I see it in both my dogs and my cats, all the time. If I give one a little more attention than another, they pout, and are jealous. And with all the pets I have, I have to make sure that each one gets enough attention, and feels loved. But they so readily forgive, too, as will your little Peg and Angelface.

Is it in the food indeed or is it in our natures to always want more? In this gentle poem you explore well, asking some of the most valuable questions. I love how you approach and handle this, Jasmin.
