Lynched by slander,
Justice by the press,
To revenge they pander,
A captain they undress,
Naked now in blanket,
Surveying, wreck and sea,
He says the lord be thanked,
That still alive is me,
But what the call from far afar,
What does the captain hear?
Get back on board you tar,
This is an order, is that clear,
In Latin lingo this means prick,
I order you, you understand,
I order you, you dick,
This is my command,
I’m just looking seeing,
Annoyed the captain shouts,
From far away, not am I fleeing,
I’m near the boat or there abouts,
Who knows the mind of man?
Will the press, or jury this decide,
Was it the captain’s plan?
Abandon trust and pride,
The lynch mob though it seems,
In every press in black and white,
Coward you, it screams,
Run you can, but cannot hide,
The hero of the hour, the captain from afar,
With garland wreath they shower,
Just like an opera star,
Tragedy in sweet and sour,
Vigilante justice as it is,
No court or jury so it seems,
His innocence did yet dismiss,
Among the mob their screams,
The real heroes of the hour,
Not the captain from afar,
But, people of his town that shower,
With love their own, a shamed star,
Who knows, till time to prove it other?
How brave, heroic we would be,
Be it fathers, mothers, brothers,
Our own ships take to sea.©19/01/2012

If only everyone on board had been as lucky.
Getting back to the ship. The truth may come out of the many accusations. The conversation between captains is telling, though.
Interesting poem.
