The Ghost From Christmas Past

Last Christmas you were in my arms, this Christmas you are the Ghost from Christmas past.

I lift my glass in a hearty toast,
While your face dances before my eyes, an ever present ghost.
Your spirit haunts me relentlessly, watching every breath I take,
Can't you just free my soul, for old times sake?
The liquor burns my throat, as I gulp it down,
I am always the life of each party, this broken hearted clown.
I lead in boisterous song and my jokes make everybody laugh,
No one would ever guess that my heart is breaking in half.
I saw you the other day, with your love so new,
I ducked into the alley, hiding from your view.
We still have the same friends, so it is really hard,
No one says your name, they are always on guard.
If you should just appear, I look the other way,
In our small town, a chance meeting could happen everyday.
I am just trying to make it through the holiday, knowing it won't last,
Christmas and you will soon fade away, my ghost from Christmas past.

Music: December

I know all too well what this is like for I too was left years ago hanging Christmas decorations by myself when someone I loved decided a few weeks before the holdiday that she no longer cared. It is a sad and hard road ahead but there is hope and I know it will come to you soon.

Small towns can be the worst.
That is one reason I moved.

Your heart is so shattered, I am sad for you. What is that old saying, "Smile though your heart is aching". Seems many are doing just that these days....

Be safe,
Karen
