The alarm clock brought me back to reality. I got up and shuddered as my feet hit the cold floor.I vainly searched for my slippers, found them and stumbled toward the kitchen. Suddenly I tripped over one of my child's scattered toys and muttered," I hope Santa and Grandma does not overdo again this Christmas!" Ah, Christmas time, The Season To Be Jolly!
BAH HUMBUG! Just a lot of bother, if you ask me! After getting my husband off to work and my child off to school, I poured myself another cup of coffee. While sipping it, I looked out of the window at the cold, gray day. With my rotten luck it would snow!
Today I must do last minute shopping. Brother! What a rip-off! Spend hundreds of dollats and bring out the stuff in a single bag! I better check over my list again! Let's see, Mary Brown, What did she give me last year?
Oh Yes, cologne that smelled like bug spray, I will give her something equally disgusting! Uncle Harry! I detest that old grouch! He is a gross man, but a very rich man! I wonder if I am in his will, just in case, he will get something very nice. Oh Great! The mail has just come! I will have to buy more cards and stamps! People and their last minute Christmas card, why did they even bother? I better go over my Christmas party list! Oh Shoot! I forgot to invite the Boring Smiths, anybody that is anybody invites them, I better make sure that they are invited. I better get dressed and get a move on, I HATE Christmas traffic! Well, I can't believe it, I found a good place to park, maybe the shopping will go well! Good Grief, look at that raggedy, dirty little boy, following folks around. I sure hope he doesn't start bugging me! Oh No! The little pest has spied me! " Pardon me Lady, I am really hungry, could you please feed me?" I looked into his soulful eyes, that were brimming with tears. Little Con Artist! I told him to run along home to his parents and to stop bothering people! He told me that he did not have a home or parents to care for him. " Oh Come on!", you little Con Artist!" I took him to McDonalds and ordered my child's favorite meal, a cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake. He told me that he wasn't from around here. I knew it! A runaway! He told me that Christmas Eve was his birthday. After he had eaten, he thanked me for the food and we said our good-byes. I couldn't get over the boy's startling, sad eyes. What was it about the little begger that disturbed me so? Finally Christmas Eve came, the night of my party. Glancing around the room, I was very pleased with myself! The tree was decorated to perfection and the colorful gifts were stacked neatly under it. My eyes then spied the Naivety Scene, nearly hidden by the big Santa. Oh Well, Santa is such a jolly ole elf, I wanted him placed where he could be seen. Oh No! Do my eyes deceive me? Looking at me, with his nose pressed against the windowpane was the Little Begger Boy. I felt very angery, why had he come to my house, he would ruin my party! My guest would be arriving soon, I must get rid of him! I jerked open the door and shouted," What are you doing here and what do you want?" " I want to come in, Please", he whispered. " Okay come in, but you can't stay long, my guest will be arriving soon!" He walked over the the Naivety Scene and pushed the Santa aside. " Why are you hiding Jesus?", he asked. " I beg your pardon", I said angerily," I am not hiding Jesus!" " Oh yes you are" , he insisted!" As I look around this room you would never guess that this was in celebration on Jesus's birth. Jesus is hidden by the tree, gifts and Santa. Which gift is for Jesus?" Then he walked over to the table and read the placecards," Which seat is for Jesus?"
This strange child made me tremble, what did he want from me? As if he had read my mind he said," I want to be apart of your celebration, after all, it is my birthday." Suddenly as if a veil had been lifted from my eyes, I realized who my uninvited Christmas guest was. He was standing before me looking into my very soul! I fell on my knees at his feet, covering my eyes with my hands and bitterly cried. I begged," Please forgive me!" When I looked up he was gone and I felt a terrible sense of loss. Amid the hussle and bussle of the Christmas Season, please don't forget to invite Jesus to the celebration, please make HIM the Guest Of Honor.
