One Of Us is a parable about man-made ecological disasters.

One of Us

by Jansen Estrup c2012

When Enkidu and Gilgamesh came upon the

fortress of trees, they bellowed firey words

and brandished their weapons.

The great cedars and pines stood proudly,

knowing that Humbaba, the guardian, was

powerful in their defense.

But when the guardian spirit lay dead at

their roots, the trees looked down at the

attacking woodsmen and their axes,

And said to each other, "At least the handle

is one of us."

Ca  900BCE (the Song of Sorrow)

What a beautiful find Jansen. The instrument that kills is part of the quarry. I need to look at the Gilgamesh chronicles which I haven't in several years. You have gleaned something that speaks of the impact of traitors in the process of war. A parallel that is not hard to find in this age. Well done my friend. Bob

I would see the handle as the betrayer. Very creative and apropos for our time.
