We forget.
We waste in anguish with downcast eyes
that look on our oppressors yet fail
to see God who covers us with shadow,
who ransoms us, brings us back
to Promised Land.
Wake up!
Remember God of certain comfort
who makes waves to roll and hearts to heal,
who clears a path for crossing, sets captives
free. Lift your eyes. Get ready
for your journey.
We shrink.
We cower in dungeons dark, forget
the Light from which we come. We exist
in constant terror, shed faith that is our
last best hope. Oh, that we might
shed fear instead
Rise up!
Put on layers of strength, for you are
God’s people who have survived in times
past. See sorrow dissipate and gladness
overtake you. Wait seems long;
so are shadows.
