Love the humor, but athletics they are. Think about it, could you do what they do?? Could you drive at speeds that range up to two hundred miles per hour for five hundred, eight hundred or one thousand miles non stop? Get out hop into a helicopter, meet your plane, travel to meet sponsor obligations, hop another plane to another track to spend two days testing, again meet sponsor obligations, be at the next track event to drive five hundred, eight hundred or one thousand miles for thirty seven weeks? Then spend the remaining twelve weeks between airplanes and helicopters going from track to track to test some more, wine and dine new sponsors? With two weeks left to relax before the cycle begins all over again?? A sport like no other where all teams play consistently against each other every week. As for me, I have has a passion for the sport since 1977, including the Indy cars, Formula One and over the last ten years watched the Craftsman Truck Series take off. As for "Rednecks" in my humble opinion, I love them all, though I am not one. Their passionate work ethics, honesty, love of God and love of country is the roots of the "Heartland".

well i gotta love that. Rednecks is an interesting word. You would be suprised at the real origin of that word. did make me laugh and whenever someone can make a buck, then it will be on a car, helmet, or whatever. lol

Drivers are athletes: takes a lot of strength to hold a racecar to the track at speeds of 150 miles an hour plus for three or so hours, praying like thunder you don't hit the wall (or anyone else). Much rather watch NASCAR than boxing. Or golf. Or...tennis. LOL

Okay, call me redneck: proud of it, gotta have my NASCAR! :)

Cute Rebecca and I would have to agree that the sponsors are getting wackier and wackier all the time but to be serious about it as well the sport does require a lot of athletic ability and they must be in shape. To control a car in access of 150 miles per hour for over three hours non stop with the pressures of 40 other cars all around you is a whole lot of work...redneck or not. I love it and once you start watching it...addiction is the only word that comes to mind. LOL
