I watched some southern gospel sings. They sing about being so happy after they die. I would like them to know you can be happy service God -- Today.
Watching gospel singers with smiles on every face
looking very happy-- singing at rapid pace.
The joy they sing about is not for us today
It is waiting for the day that we all pass away.
This world is not my home I’m just a passing through
My treasures and my hopes are all beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
I love gospel music it’s always served me well
But Jesus promised joy in this world where we dwell
God’s joy is for today for those who follow him
Serving others fill our cup clear up to the brim.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
This world is now my home I’m not just passing through
My treasures grow right here When I share God’s love with you.
Serving other people gives joy to us galore
And we can feel at home in this world all the more.
Larry, I love how you spaced old gospel songs we use to sing long ago, into your work...great job.

I think that the message being conveyed in these gospel songs and other religious hymns are meant to lift the spirit. Remind us of what's in store if we but follow God. To me this implies and is a foregone conclusion - that we must live this life fully, lovingly, compassionately, ...

There's nothing like an old fashion hymnal. Church hymns are what I was brought up on. Thanks for bringing the memory back.
I enjoy everyone's comments and I really like singing these old songs because that's what I grew up on. But....I wanted to get across the point that I wish songs told people about the joy of feeding the hungry, helping the sick, visiting the stranger, etc. I don't think Jesus wants us to just sit around singing when there is His work to continue. Perhaps I should re-write. But I certainly enjoyed all your comments.
Larry, this took me back to the years of singing Gospel Music...the chorus is one I know well...I enjoyed this much. One thing for sure we don't have no friends like Him. Thanks for sharing.

Ain't nothin' like a good rousing 4-part harmony on songs like "Old Rugged Cross", "I Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now", "What A Beautiful Day For The Lord To Come Again", or "I'll Fly Away" to get the ol' blood a flowin' and the ol' heart a pumpin' or the ol' soul to flyin!
