Jesus says it's good to be the "salt of the earth". Lot's wife was salt but that wasn't good. What can we learn from this?
Jesus said you are the salt of the earth
a candle shining as a leading light
something to be highly desired
leading struggling people through the night.
Lot’s wife didn’t fit this helpful image
she, too, was salt – so just what did she lack?
The answer is very simple I’m sure
she couldn’t be helpful because she looked back.
Those who want to follow Jesus today
need to see if they are on the right track.
He needs those who are looking forward
rather than those constantly looking back.
So don’t tell me all the things that you have done
but tell me what you’re going to do.
If you explore where Jesus is going
the right kind of salt will be part of you.
That's the kind of sermon I should have heard growing up, not the ones shouting about condemnation but the calm whispering of love.
In those days it was the wolf! wolf! call so abused that the fear of God was replaced by a shoulder's shrug.
We shouldn't fear God, as we don't fear our own father, but fear to offend Him or be the cause of sadness in His heart.
