A Boy at the Crucifixion

What was the terrible events of the crucifixion like through the eyes of a small boy who had sat on Jesus' knee?

I sat upon his knee when I was small.
He was so kind even though he was tall.
“You must be like a child” he said so loud
and it made an impression on the crowd.

I followed him because he was so kind
and watched him when he healed the sick and blind.
I ran beside him with palm branch in hand
and felt important in the joyful band.

It’s hard for a small boy to understand
how the people could make such a demand
to ask old Pilate to crucify him
and undertake action that was so grim.

I held the hand of his mother so dear
as I looked at her as she shed a tear
when he told John to love her as a son
and their new relationship was begun.

When I was older I told my small boy
how the haters thought that they could destroy
his wondrous love by all their rejection
but he answered with the resurrection.

"And a child shall lead them" If we could always see His beauty through an innocent child's eyes - the world would surely be a better place. I love the beauty in this poem. Superb!

God Bless you. Kathy

I agree with Georg. Everyone, at some point or another, finds ourselves in a moment when we doubt and harbor guilt. Eventually, though, our eyes are always opened and everything becomes crystal clear!

Nice poem, Larry.

All the best,
Jill

I suppose Georg has it partially correct, we all, at one time or another deny Him three times before the . . . You know the rest . . . But I maintain this is a wakeup to reality which is, or should be, attributed to modern times . . . We, as a nation should understand that the crucifixion of Jesus was/is a metaphor for America the Beautiful in that we have allowed Pilate to "crucify" this once great country to the point where wrong is right and right is blasphemed . . . To the point where even as we speak a certain individual with roots in the murky past of a dark religion is asking us to accept him ascend to Pilate's chair . . .

The saga continues and with it the author's soul towards the cleansing of the inner guilt that all we share.
A little bit of that boy should reside inside us.
